XP Machine not able to connect to mapped drives on Windows 7 machine.
We have 3 windows 7 machines that all seem to connect to the new Windows 7 machine we use as a file server for the most part just fine. We have noticed that when the XP machine quits talking to the Windows 7 machine. We get some adverse or similiar problems with the Windows 7 workstations just not to the same extent. We have narrowed it down to the computer browser service. When we adjust how that service starts up it seems to solve the problem. As it stands now we are sitting with the XP machine setting the browser service to Automatic and all the Windows 7 machines set to manual. First what should the browser service be set too for each operating system. Has anyone else had similiar problems in a hybrid network?

Hi, Please try the following suggestions to troubleshoot this issue: 1. Check if you can ping the computer with the command “ping computer name” or “ping IP Address”. 2. Please check if you can access the share folder with “\\computer name\folder” or “\\IP Address\ folder”. 3. Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers and check if it works. 4. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see if the issue persists. If not, please also boot to Clean Boot environment to determine the possible cause. 4. If you have enabled simple file sharing on Windows XP computer, please check if Guest account has also been enabled; you can also disable the simple file sharing and reconfigure the sharing on the Windows XP computer with the following Knowledge Base: How to disable simple file sharing and how to set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP 5. Disable “Password protected sharing” in Windows 7. If the issue persists, please let me know if there is any error received. Regards, Sabrina TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Sorry didn't get back. We did get the issues resolved. A bios update has fixed the problem. I took your list over plus the bios update. I updated bios prior to trying any of the list above as I had already tried a few of the above listed things. The updated bios on the intel based motherboard board fixed seems to have resolved the problem. We have not been able to recreate the problem since. I will post again if this situation changes. Thanks for the help.
