XP Pro, wakes up from Hibernate every day at exact same time
As the title suggests...I put my XP Pro in Hibernate every morning before I leave home.If I do not turn it back on in the evening, the next morning when I wake up the computer is on. I monitored it several times, as well as based on the Even Viewer, it seems that something is waking it up at 10:58 pm and I cannot figure out what it is.Any help will be appreciated.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi.It seems to me that there could be two causes for this. The favourite could be that you have a Scheduled Task set to run at this time. Go to the Start menu and navigate to the System Tools in Accessories. There should be a 'Schedule Tasks' menu item. Start this and see if there is any tasks scheduled. If there is any, and you don't need them to run, just delete them.If you think my answers are helpful please vote and mark as possible answer. Thank you.

Thank you. I did check Scheduled Tasks before posting, there is nothing there.

Hi.The other thing that I was thinking of is that you have a wake up event set in your BIOS. Have you checked this?If you think my answers are helpful please vote and mark as possible answer. Thank you.

I looked at it some time ago, couldn't find anything that may suggest a wake up. I am pretty sure "Wake up on LAN" or something like that isDisabled , but I am not sure what else to check in the BIOS in regards to that.

Hi sbi1.There are various Bios software that have different menus so I can only be vague as to your set up. There will be a menu item in the bios that will be along the lines of wake on event. The sub menu to this will contain various options like, wakeon LAN, wake at a set time, wake on alarm etc. See if you can find this. You might be able to find a digital version of your mobo manual from the manufacturers that will point you to the right area.If you think my answers are helpful please vote and mark as possible answer. Thank you.

I have another thought in addition to Lee's. In the past, programs which needed to have events triggered at specific times choose to use the Task Scheduler.Nowadays, as programs are increasingly complex, there are some that utilize a scheduler that is built into the software itself. It does not depend on Task Scheduler at all. As I have no idea of the software installed on your computer, please evaluate yourself. Probable programs with built in schedulers include backup and mirroring.Hope this helpsPost back if needed____________________If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Some folks have no idea what their motherboard and BIOS is or how to find out.Sometimes they have no idea what a Scheduled Tasl is either or how to even find/look at what they might have.If you want to see what the motherboard and BIOS is, do this:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. Then you will know what the motherboard and BIOS is (and some other good stuff) and can find manuals and documentation on the Wide Wide World of Web and see what the options are and suggest appropriately and not be vague :)If you think the system is waking on LAN, after you shutdown for the night, unplug your Internet cable and see if the system is running when you check it in the morning. If you find the system running every morning and then when you unplug the Internet cable and it is not waking up anymore, then it might be waking on the LAN, so you know where to look and not guess what it might be (now you know the motherboard and BIOS from the previous information). If you want to know about any/all Scheduled Tasks and not guess if it might be a Scheduled Task, do this:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:cmdClick OK to open a Command Prompt window. In the Command Prompt window enter the following command to display all the Scheduled Task, their next run time, etc.:schtasks /queryThen you can capture the results to a text file with this commandschtasks /query > tasks.txtOpen the tasks.txt file with any text editor, select all the text, copy and paste it back here and you will know about all the scheduled tasks. If you see a Scheduled Task set to run on or about 10:58 PM figure out what it is and do something about that task (disable it or tell it not to wake the computer). There is also a Scheduled Task log file you can look at to see what is going on with any Scheduled Tasks:c:\windows\SchedLgu.TxtThe Schedule Tasks file is probably clutterd with a bunch of junk making it hard to interpret, so make a new log file as follows:Stop the Task Scheduler Service.Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Service and locate the Task Scheduler Service and stop it.Delete or rename the probably cluttered Scheduled Task log file which is usually found here: c:\windows\SchedLgu.Txt Restart the Task Scheduler service to create a new log (it is just a text file) and verify that a new log file has been created and looks something like this:"Task Scheduler Service" Started at 1/1/2010 6:26:43 AM[ ***** Most recent entry is above this line ***** ]Do, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!
