XP to Vista Translation
Trying to get my laptop connected to school wifi. But everybody at the tech support on campus is stumped by Vista. So I'm hoping some of you are capable of reading the XP directions and making them work with Vista. Wireless @ FAU Secure Wireless Networking on FAU Campuses Setting up a laptop to use FAU's Wireless Network Assumptions * Windows XP * Wireless card installed * Wireless card working 1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel. 2. From the Control Panel select Network and Internet Connections. 3. From the Network and Internet Connections window click the Network Connections icon. 4. Right-click on your wireless network connection and select properties. 5. Click the Wireless Networks tab at the top of the Wireless Network Connections window. 6. Add the new secure wireless connection by clicking the Add button. If there is currently an existing network called "fau" or "fausecure" select it and click the Remove button. Association tab 7. In the window that opens, enter fausecure in the Network name (SSID) field. This value is case sensitive so type it without any capital letters. 8. For Network Authentication select Open. 9. For Data encryption select WEP. 10. Check the box for The key is provided for me automatically. 11. Select the Authentication tab at the top. Authentication tab 12. Select only the checkbox next to "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network." Change the EAP type: to Protected EAP (PEAP). All other check boxes should be unchecked. 13. Click the Properties button to change the Protected EAP Properties. Uncheck all checkboxes and click the Configure button. EAP properties dialog 1 14. In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties, the check box should be unchecked. Click OK to accept the changes on this panel, and click OK on the other 3 windowsfour times to accept all changes. If the secure FAU wireless network is in range, you will be prompted with the following message: "Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network fausecure". Click on the message to enter your FAU username and password. Info box showing wireless connection exists 16. The Enter Credentials dialogue box will appear. Please enter your FAUNet ID and password and click OK. Wireless logon box Note: The Logon domain field should be blank. 17. After the FAU credentials are accepted, you will be authenticated to the secure FAU wireless network and can use the network connection. Thanks ^^

Sorry for the bump, but I'm having problems finding anywhere that can figure this out and I imagine here would be my best shot. Brought it to the tech support at my campus and they were completely stumped on how to connect a Vista to the schools WiFi.
