bcd boot error
Hi
I am getting this message after a crash on my wife's e machines laptop model G640 . To be precise:
File: \Boot\Bcd
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
There was no back up disc or installation disc and i cannot navigate from this screen either by using esc of enter can anyone advise how to solve this issue. This happened today but we've had issue right from when we first purchased this laptop
with it going to the blue screen and also the start windows normally black screen. We've only added 2 programs those being windows home office and student 2010 and wise pc engineer.
many thanks
Graham

Some machines will have the backup data pre-installed. When you bootup do you have the option of hitting F11 (or something similar) to enter recovery mode?
Have you tried to enter Safe Mode?
- Press F8 while starting up.
If you are able to enter Safe Mode, use BootRec:
BootRec /RebuildBcd – This will automatically rebuild the Windows 7 boot menu if it has become corrupt
BootRec /fixmbr – This will repair the master boot record (MBR) on your hard disk
BootRec /fixboot – This will write a new boot sector to your hard disk. This is useful if your boot sector has become corrupt of damaged.
BootRec /ScanOS – This last option will scan your hard disks for operating systems that may not currently be appearing in the boot menu.
Otherwise, the inbuilt recover mode will be able to reinstall your system.
Please, let me know if you are unable to do either.
