black screen after login when wshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnec tion is used in Login Script
Hi, We are currently testing Windows 7 in a Domain environment and have found an issue with our Login Script. Drives map fine, however when we have any Printer mappings in the script the user will get a black screen after logging in, then it takes around 5-10 minutes for it to get to the desktop. This is NOT related to any Video Card settings as we have tested this by removing the Printer Mappings from the Login Script and after logging in it goes straight to the desktop. It seems like its an elevated shell or something to do with UAC (possibly wanting confrimation or an admin account) but nothing is displayed, the cursor still works, and you can use WIN KEY + U then run explorer that way. Has anybody experienced this? Thanks

Yes even not in a domain environment. I dont really know what happened to my laptop several days ago, Whenever I log in my any account, by anyway: safemode, low resolution, last know good config ..... after logging in all I get is a completely black screen. I found a way to get my desktop appeared, by calling Task manager, then terminate explorer.exe.But the thing is, not everytime I could call Task manager, just only after I chose to Repair my commputer (F8 for list of options), then using system restore. So it does not usually show the Task manager at all. This is the third time I've reinstalled OS Win 7 today. And I think, after I post this reply, shutdown my computer, When I boot it up next time, I'm gonna get the black screen again. By the way, I'm not sure that after 5-10 mins it could be fine.By the way, how to remove the printer mappings from the login script (sorry :)I'm not an IT profession so I totally dont know about that)I have read on some forum and they surgest to go to Local Group Policy Editor, Computer Config\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security options\User account control: Switch to secure desktop ..... ==>> change this setting to DISABLE.I am trying and hopfully everything's okay after I reboot.

Hi, Since you suspect this issue may be UAC related, please disable UAC and check if the issue will disappear. If so, you may need to modify your script to make it work with UAC. For more information, please refer to: Designing UAC Applications for Windows Vista To add printer, I think you can try GP Preferences: GP Preferences: Add a new printer, set as default Hope this helps. Actually I don't need to add a printer anyway since I dont have a printer and anyway I'm not usually printing anything but thanks for that :) I had tried the trick from the forum by editing group policy and it worked. The black screen is not gone totally but at least it just appear in a few seconds then all the taskbar, desktop ... appear after a small dialog on the top left of the screen. Thereafter I tried disable UAC to see if the black screen totally disappear but it did not work, black screen was still there for a few seconds. Can you tell me how to modify the script, I did research but no joy. And by the way, I think there should be a relation between this thing and the task manager, which now I cannot access anymore, I try right click at taskbar then choose task manager but nothing displayed. Ctrl+Shift+Esc does not work, either. My machine is totally virus free. I did a check to see if DisableTaskmgr entry was in registry but it was not. So confused because I need task manager to terminate explorer.exe so many time as it was so lag when browsing files, taskbar desktop and other stuffs were still okay but the windows that browsed files hang. Somehow my system is running like very lag. it's like CPU "working too hard".
