can't obtain ip from dhcp
hi - i want to connect 2 computers to intenet using a switch which is connected to a DSL modem - the problem is they can't get ip address from the modem's dhcp simoltaneously . i mean when i connect both of them i get a meesage that says there is an ip conflict and the ip you r assigning is exist in the network and therefore from time to time one of them is disconnected and the other is connected . the dhcp ip range is for 5 computers and computers set to get ip address automatically - by the way my modem is Dlink320T and i use PPPOE mode for connecting to isp so i have no connection insides my windows 7 .

You need a router, not a switch. Your modem is not a router; even though it can supply multiple addresses via DHCP you can still only have one computer active at a time. You need to set it up like this: Computers connect to the router; router connects to the modem (computers->router->modem->internet). You can connect a switch (or hub) to the router to add more computers if required, but the router still has to be there.

You do not have a Windows 7 problem. You have a confiiguration problem with your ADSL hardware and you need to contact the appropriate people about it. Have you contacted D-Link? Have you read the User's Manual for instructions? Windows 7 has absolutely no control or affect on DHCP assignment in the ADSL modem. That is strictly a function of the ADSL modem! This is not a Windows 7 problem! Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. First of all, you need to specify IP in both PC and it should be Different, IP address must be unique in a network. (Example: PC A has IP Address - 192.168.1.3 & PC B has IP Address - 192.168.1.4) both PC cannot have same IP "there is an ip conflict" to use Internet in both PC simultaneously, DSL modem (ADSL+ modem) must be set to PPPOE mode not bridge mode. The OP refered to a D-Link 320T. The manual can be found @ ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dsl_routers_modems/dsl-320t/DSL-320T_user_guide.pdf And, the manual claims you can use either a switch or a hub for multiple IP address via DHCP.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. yeah i have read that manual - i did both dhcp assignment and manually ip assignement - but the problem is still there - when i use dhcp, one of them gets a public (internet ) ip address which receives from ISP and the other gets an APIPA address.and while i'm using them both in that situation to connect to a web site they begin interchanging their ip addresses - therefor first one gets APIPA and second one gets public ip address . that public ip address which brings me internet has 255.255.255.255 subnet mask. i'm using PPPOE method .
