my laptop is on but i cant logon on its asking for a password there is a user name box then a passsword box its microsoft windows xp professional i know it old but my son loves the laptop and i have lots of things on it what should i do ?1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi,Please try restarting the laptop and keep tapping the F8 key until you get to the safe mode window.Choose safe mode, you should after a while have 2 users to choose from Administrator and the user name you need a password for.Try the Admin without adding password, if it opens change the other user & admin passwords and keep a note of them some where safe.Please bear in mind, that my answer is based on the details given in your post.
