Hi mdbrady16, If disk defragment can’t run due to some file error, it could be because of that file corruption and in your case as it is related to one of the Windows update, I would suggest you to follow the below mentioned steps and check if it helps resolve the issue.Method 1: Uninstall update KB975558 from Installed Windows updates.a) Click Start, click Run, type “appwiz.cpl”, and then clickOK. b) Click to select the Show Updates check box. c) In the Currently installed programs and updates list, look for the following item:Security Update for Windows Media Player (KB975558)d) Click on the update and select Remove.e) Restart the computer and then try Disk Defragment.Method 2: Uninstall update KB975558 from“$NTUninstallKB975558_WM8$” folder.a) Click Start, Click My Computer, select Local Disk (C:) drive.b) Select Windows folder and select “$NTUninstallKB975558_WM8$” folder.Note: “$NTUninstallKB975558_WM8$” folder is a hidden folder, if you are unable to locate the specified folder, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> select View tab -> select Show hidden files and folders option -> Click Apply -> Click OK.c) Under “$NTUninstallKB975558_WM8$” folder, locate “spuninst” folder and run spuninst.exe from the specified location.d) Restart the computer after the update removal and then try Disk Defragment.
