Yesterday I ran Microsoft Fix it Center to try to recover my Quicken program. When I ran it under: Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder problems, it said, Issue Found: Recycle Bin is corrupted- you cannot empty Recycle Bin or delete a file or folder inside the bin. I opened Recycle Bin and nothing is there. I deleted something and it did not go to Recycle Bin. The box for: "do not move files to recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" is unchecked. I went to Recycle bin and clicked on Empty Recycle Bin. A window popped up: Confirm File Delete- Are you sure you want to delete 'Windows'? uh....no! I have tried deleting the recycle bin by F8/Safe Mode with command prompt/C:/ attrib -s -h recycler/enter/del recycler/enter per some instructions I found on internet. Did not help. I have HP pavilion XP pro with service Pack 3 and have installed IE 8. I am logged in as Administrator. I have run Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and Spyblaster. A few days ago I ran Avast. I hope this is not too much information. thanks maggie

Hi Joel, I appreciate your getting back to me. I'm not sure if a disk came with my computer but I will look. Is it ok if I do it tomorrow because I have been on here all day trying to find a fix? I am totally wiped out. I will get back to you as soon as I can though. Thanks, maggie

Good afternoon Joel, ahh..a sense of humor. That may come in very handy here. The plot has thickened. I don't actually have a windows disk per se but I do have three recovery disks that I made but know people who have found them to be unreliable and have had to obtain System Recovery dvds from HP for a nominal fee. Had to do that myself with my laptop. This computer I am working on is a desktop. OK so I decided to do a Search for i386 in my computer. 20 files were found. One blue icon was called IIS-i386, 259 KB, Cabinet File listed under C:\Windows\i386\IIS6.CAB. Stick with me here......Last week I was looking in C:\ My Downloads and I came upon a strange looking "download". It is a blue file cabinet with the bottom drawer open and it is named: result, 358KB. I looked at Properties and under the General tab: type of file, Cabinet file, date 4/24/10. Opens with Windows Explorer. I clicked on Advanced. It says Advanced Attributes: Archive & Index Attributes. Then two boxes that are checked. First one: File is ready for archiving. Second one: For fast searching allow Indexing Service to index this file. Ok, the ball is now in your court. 8^D Please do not tell me this has nothing to do with anything. LOL maggie

Excellent job!! According to two of the file data bases I use the file you located in My Downlaods is likely to be related to malware which very well could be the cause of all the issues, recycle bin included. You can download Malwarebytes, which is an excellent program, and take a stab at it. Personally, however, I find that single scanning methods are never conclusive and that the best removal is a complete removal to include any and all hidden files as well. To do this you will need to run a few software which will generate log files then have them analyzed> I will be happy to do this for you. However, MS Answers does not permit the posting of log files anymore. Nevertheless, you are welcome to post you issue in my free forum and I will assist you. Simply copy and paste your above post and I will recognize you. The forum is free but you will have to create an account. I make this requirement to prevent spamming and drive-by posting. Post the issue in the Virus/Malware forum creating a new topic. If you wish to tackle this alone the link to Malwarebytes is below the forum link.Malwarebytes.orgRegards,JoelSometimes deciding which battle to fight is the toughest battle of all..

Thanks Joel. I will be over to your site soon as I had already run Malwarebytes with 0 results. I did go to System Recovery to see what occurred about the time of the result 'download' on 4/24/10. The day before it says that Superantispyware was removed and installed within 2 minutes. I do not recall doing that but not sure. Actually I can't figure out why I would do it. Superantispyware shows the last modification was 08/02/08 but not sure this means anything. I did try a system restore back to 04/22/10 without success as far as getting my Recycle Bin working. This is probably all goobledygook at this point so I will shut up and get to work signing up at your site. maggie

My forum is completely free to the user and I receive no form of compensation from the members, users or any advertisement, In other words, I do it completely free. I have read the TOS and found nowhere where there is a prohibition against posting links except where those links constitute spamming. Offering completely free services to remove infections for those in need does not constitute spam. If I, like other users who post their links, were profiting from the forum I provide links to, perhaps it could be considered spam. If you wish to single me out among the many others who post links to their website then so be it. I only post the link in situations in which there are potential infections involved and in which I perceive the need to look a little deeper than the average MBAM scan. So, up to you Mr. Cody. But, if you insist I do not post my link then you sure better insist others do not either. There are currently hundreds and hundreds of post with links to bleeping computer which as you know is a computer support forum just as mine is. Do you also tell those posters not to post the link or is it only because the link I post is to a forum that belongs to me? Sometimes deciding which battle to fight is the toughest battle of all..

For your information Joel helped me fix my computer and it had some really serious problems! Oh lets see, Malware, malware bites and a couple of really mean viruses. My computer was crashing, freezing up, and kicking me off the internet on a regular basis not to mention taking upwards of 10 minutes just to get signed in and I have DSL!! I was ready to trash my computer and go buy a new one when I stumbled upon this site. I posted the problem and Joel helped me to fix ALL OF IT!! He saved me $$$ because I was ready to go buy a new computer!! You should be thankful to have someone like Joel who is as knowledgeable about computer problems as he is; and why are you slamming/singling him out?! He is right about the other posts/links. You really need more people like him helping on this forum. He sure saved me money. Phonex3

He does not seem to be that kind of person and you should be grateful to have such a person working to solve problems on your site and beyond. Please reconsider your post and offer an apology to Joel who deserves your respect and not a public thrashing. Thank you, maggie
