error 651, where can I download a patch to fix this from MS?
To Microsoft Support, I have tried all the various retrofits posted by Microsoft Support and error 651 still occurs. I have ADSL2+, Windows 7 Professional fully updated, LAN, and Wi-Fi. I am attempting to connect via the Workplace VPN option in the Network and sharing center. Like most people in this forum, I was able to connect once only and after that "error 651". Microsoft has a inherent responsibility to provide an update to fix this issue as it is a programming flaw in the driver. Please provide a link to an executable file that will fix this issue without all the retrofits that everyone on this forum is being forced to do if they want to fix it. It has cost 16+ hours of my time following all of the various retrofit instructions. Not fair for the consumer of MS products for the thousands or millions being effected. Kindest Regards, BCowger

Hi, Would you please let me know what is your VPN type? PPTP or L2TP? The error code 651 indicates the modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error. Therefore, make sure you have updated the connecting devices' driver. I notice you are using Wifi, please also bypass the router. If the issue persists, here are some suggestions for you to refer. 1. If you have installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 or Sun's Virtual Box, uninstall it. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/15526354-b60e-4f2b-8dd7-ee0785f1d075 2. Disable IPv6 for your connection. 3. Disable Windows 7 auto-tuning feature: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled 4. Disable some special function of your LAN card 5. Reinstall LAN/NIC card drivers 6. Perform a Clean Boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Also confirm with ISP to ensure it is not the cause from that side, such as the port has been blocked.
