error message for easy transfer says cannot access domain account?
After installing Windows 7 onto my current computer with XP, I get the error message about unable to access account domain when files try to transfer. My computer is connected to a LAN main server but even when I log on as the account administrator the new computer with Windows 7 has the same message. What am I doing wrong? The Windows Easy Transfer software does show it is loaded on my computer as well as the main server.

Ok, lets back up a second here. So you used it to transfer data to a backup - but to where? Now you've upgraded (or dual boot) Windows 7 - have you joined it to a domain yet? 2nd, did you go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Windows Easy Transfer? You start it up and select Next, you mentioned network, so I'm making assumptions so its just a guess that you backed it up to a network location, however you don't select network (unless the old machine was separate and still running on the network), you'll select An external hard drive or USB flash drive, select This is my new computer, Select Yes, if the drive you backed up to is mapped (if joined to the domain and they map drives for you), then select the drive, double click it if you need to drill down into the folder where your back is and select your *mig file and go. If it isn't mapped, then you could select the computer from the network on which you data is stored and browse through it. Main server doesn't need software loaded, Windows 7 will take care of it in this scenario.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. I may have mis-stated myproblem. My office computer is connected to a main server, some of my files are on my computer others are stored in the main server. When I ran the easy transfer software from the disk that came with the cable on my old XP office computer i was able to see that my new computer and my old shared a connection. Then when new computer tried to transfer the files I received the error not connected to domain account message. Are you saying I need to connect my new computer to a domain or map a drive for it to see the server? I appreciate your help!

Ahhh now you're making a little more sense. What's on the server will still be on the server after your company has joined the domain. Had the new computer joined the domain yet? (in most departments, your IT guy will handle that). yes, you need to join the new computer to the domain before you start the transfer. Are you the administrator (given administrator rights in your domain profile?) Once you join the new domain, then you'll procede with the WET on both machines. Install Office if you haven't done so. Now you can start WET and follow the promptsMCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. I got this problem by not having all the accounts mapped under Advanced Options on the new machine. I removed them from transfer, and everything worked.
