explorer.exe causing massive upload activity
What would be causing the explorer.exe process to upload loads of data randomly. It happens only on certain times during the day, not always, and can upload up to 300mb per hour if left alone. I have downloaded DU Meter and TCP View which are the programs I used to confirm the problem which also appeared on the netstat command. These programs also showed many different remote IP addresses and some names. I didn't recognise any of them. PC uses Windows XP SP2. Thanks1 person got this answerI do too

Sure sounds like your computer is infected, especially since it is out of date security-wise having only Service Pack 2. Clean up your computer, do maintenance, and then install Service Pack 3 and subsequent Windows Updates.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malwarehttp://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#MaintenanceWindows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers (Microsoft Download Center)http://tinyurl.com/6k9zo3Prerequisites for a successful installation - MVP Harry Waldron- http://tinyurl.com/6nf4k4Steps to take before you install WinXP SP3 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717 WinXP SP3 Installation- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsxp/cc164204.aspx If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
