failed to install network printer - access denied
Hi,
we have a domain environment here and have network printers shared
when a standard user user tried to add a network printer it failed with access denied error (same account worked fine in xp)
then when a admin user logon then it was fine to add the printer
now, the standard user log back on and try to install the same printer again. it worked!!
it sounds like the standard user can't download the driver to somewhere in c: but it could read from it
any idea what it is?

Hi Bostos,
Windows 7 security. Once the Admin installed the printer locally, the standard user could install it. Quote from Windows 7 Help and Support, Standard User:
What is a standard user account?
A standard user account lets you use most of the capabilities of the computer. You can use most programs that are installed on the computer and change settings that affect your user account.
However, you can't install or uninstall some software and hardware, you can't delete files that are required for the computer to work, and you can't change settings that affect other users or the
security of the computer. If you're using a standard account, you might be prompted for an administrator password before you can perform certain tasks.

This is by design. In Windows Vista and Windows 7 you can change related policy setting to allow standard users to install drivers.
