I may not know how to use microsoft tools correctly but I tried the restore process to no result. Other than reformatting the C disc and reinstalling all of the software - boo hoo !!! - I don't see any microsoft tool that can fix this for me. I can't get hold of a microsoft tech to ask the question without a charge. I don't know how the C drive got corrupted in the first place, about 1 month ago. Prior to that, I was able to backup without any significant problem that I can see.

Open an elevated command prompt by clicking on the start orb, type cmd, and hit ctrl shift enter. When the command window opens. type chkdsk c: Answer y to the prompt asking if you want to run on the next boot. Jerry

Hi Jerry, I did a chkdsk c: I don't really know how to interpret it but did a screen print and pasted it to Word. I don't know how to attach it to this email or paste it either. Can't use copy or paste in this box. I could send you a copy of the screen print if I had your email address so you could see. As far as I can decipher the chkdsk, 0 bad file records processed, the volume Bitmap is incorrect, Windows found problems with the file system (indicates run chkdsk with the /g (fix) option to correct these, 0 kb in bad sectors.... Should I initiate the chkdsk fix protocol? Thanks for your assistance. Dennis Tivel

Running "chkdsk c: /f" from an elevated command prompt should fix your problem. (I presume /g mentioned in your post was a typo) By the way, mentioning your product key on a public forum is a definite no-no!

BrowniMFC is correct. I should have included the /f switch in my original post. Run chkdsk /f from an elevated command prompt. Jerry

Thanks guys. With minor errors, I was able to back up without the corrupted C disc error. I was looking forward with gloom to having to reformat the C disc and reload all of the software. There really ought to be a better way to clean and reinstall on a hard disc. Thanks again. Dennis Tivel Dennis Tivel
