help. can't visit a certain website why?
my sister told me she can't visit myspace.comeverytime I type www.myspace.com it goes to google.comfor some reason we can't visit the website from either our laptop or desktop. I tried both IE8 and chrome but both are unable to visit the site. I already checked tools, internet options, and added it to trusted sites. I also checked restricted sites and I don't see it in the list. I also checked the cookies options.also deleted all temp files, history, and cookiesI did a search online and all results said to do what I just mentioned above. I also tried cmd, ping www.myspace.com and everything came back fine.what else can I do? also I'm using windows 7 on both computersIE8, chrome, firefox 3.5

I was thinking the same program or virus may be installed on both computers and my reasoning for this isthe following:for this behavior to occur on two seperate computers and since this is not a known issue with windows 7would make it unlikely to be the fault of the operating system and more likely to be a registry modification, installed program, addon or virus. You could try running internet with addons disabled and see if it redirects. Another thing to try is a clean install and going to that website before anything is added or installed to the system.

I installed windows 7 professional RTM on my desktop by disabling addons do you mean just on IE? why would IE addons effect firefox or chrome?

My mistake, but these active x programs "addons" would have to run in all browsers and could produce the same undesired effect if it were addon programs. When you did that recent clean install did you try to access this web site before installing additional programs of any kind becouse when I want to find out if something is causing strange behavior I will sometimesdo a cleaninstall and this means spotless with nothing added whatsoever and test it from that point. honestly i didnt try that website, my sister is the one who gets on that site and told me about the problem? she tried to access the website on sunday and that is when I heard about the problem. just as i was writing this I remembered something, the one addon that runs on ALL my browsers is Xmarks to sync my favorite sites. this is the only addon i can think of that runs on every browser I use. have you or anyone heard of Xmarks causing this?

Hello, Before going any further, I wonder whether the same issue occurs while browsing another website; will Internet Explorer also redirect other website to Google.com. If the answer is no, I suppose that the issue should be related to the myspace.com site instead of IE8 application and you'd better contact its support to solve the problem in timely manner. Otherwise, please continue with the instructions below to narrow down the issue. 1. Run IE with No Add-ons Click Start, copy and paste Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) into Start Search box and press Enter. Change the cookie settings and have a test. 2. Reset IE 1) Click Start button-> Control Panel. 2) Change to Classic View on the left pane and double-click the Internet Options icon. 3) On the Security tab, click Default level button for each icon in the Select a zone to view or change security settings. 4) Click to Programs tab, and then click the Make default button if it is not grayed out. 5) Click to Advanced tab, click Restore advanced settings button in the Settings area. 6) Click the Reset button in the Reset Internet Explorer settings area and Click OK. 7) Click Apply, and then click OK. 3. Temporarily disable/uninstall all Anti-Virus firewalls or programs 4. Delete the redundant proxy information in Internet Explorer 5. Terminate third-party conflicts Run Windows Safe Mode 1) Detach all unnecessary peripheral devices from your computer, such as printers, scanners and removable storage devices. 2) Restart the computer. 3) Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears. 4) Choose Safe Mode with Networking, and press Enter. 5) Test the issue in Safe Mode to see if the issue still exists. Note: In Safe Mode, your system display and Desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. If the issue does not occur in safe mode, lets try a Clean Boot to test the issue. Start Windows in Clean Boot mode Note: You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. 1) Click Start. 2) Copy and paste "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and click Enter. 3) Switch to Services tab and then Check Hide All Microsoft Services. 4) Click Disable All. 5) Switch to the Startup tab and then Click Disable all. 6) Click OK. 7) Click Restart to restart the computer and test the issue. Good Luck! Andy

Andy all these steps were already set to default the only one that I changed was or selected that was different was STEP 5. after I ran IE8 with no add ons AND reset IE the problem was fixed. One big question, why would resetting IE also allow chrome and firefox to access the website? is there a setting in IE that these other two use or something?as soon as I turned my laptop on without doing any changes to it was also able to access the website.

Itsounds like a program you installed or even a virus is redirecting you to google. After you told me it might be a virus I started running a scan. After about 10minutes my sister walked into the room and said, " You don' think it's a virus" Bells started going off in my head and I asked her why she thought that. The day the problem started AVIRA anti-virus warned her of 3 virus. I opened the report and saw that the program had detected 3 viruses that day, the odd thing is that it said the viruses had been--------> "deny access"If avira hadalready blocked them why would the problem2 days ago why would the problemstill exist?*Virus or unwanted program 'HTML/Malicious.PDF.Gen [virus]'detected in file 'C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\3C63DY9E\rce9t[1].pdf.Action performed: Deny access*Virus or unwanted program 'HTML/Feebs.Gen [virus]'detected in file 'C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\DUR76RH8\clk[1].htm.Action performed: Deny access*Virus or unwanted program 'HTML/FakeAlert.lok [virus]'detected in file 'C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\RL7PWZZ2\pr[1].htm.Action performed: Deny accessthanks mentioning to check fora virus

Vondu viruses somtimes create little programs that can be detected as viruses in addonsand then be removed by a/vbut the malicious program that makes these undesirable addons can reside somwhere on your system and not be detected which may or may not be what is happening here but justsome informationof how they work to sabatoge internet browsing. so you believe the virus is still there then but the anti-virus is not detecting it? after i disabled the add-ons and rest IE it worked but it's a possibility the virus is still there?

It's just a possibility. Since the same thing happened on two computers an it's not a known issue for windows 7issue my guess is some installed program or web site's addon would be to blame, or as as Imentioned a virus of some sort. So the best route is first try running IE8 with no addons as Andy suggestedand then try to access myspace. i'm sorry I should have made it more clear, the problem was fixed already. I replied to Andy's suggestion and I wrote what occurred. In my response I asked why would disabling addons on IE allowchrome and firefox to access the website. As soon as I disabled the addons the laptop was also able to access the website.sorry I should have marked it as answered already
