heterogeneous computing and windows.
I would like to know at what point in the future I can expect a computer operating system that can, when two computers are connected to each other through a high
speed connection, such as the Intel Thunderbolt cable, be able to share processing power, memory, graphics, and other resources. What I am asking essentially is:
that when the computers are connected to each other that thay act as a single computing system a far a the user is concerned, if the user needs the extra computing
power and resources. I would like this ability to, at some time, exists between a laptop and a tablet computer, including the ability to make the tablet act as an extended
desktop/monitor for the laptop when connected. The newer processors from Intel, and AMD seem to be moving in this direction, with the ability to interconnect their integrated
graphics processors and general purpose processors on the same computing platform, even though the processors have different instruction sets. Does Microsoft have any plans
in the future to adopt this heterogeneous computing model for their windows 8 and beyond?

There are already systems like this on the market and have been for years.
It is not the OS that is the problem, it's the hardware interface that's needed. You have to link two or more computers with a hardware interface! Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. So even an on the main processor die Thunderbolt type interface between the computers at 10 gb per second bidirectional would not support enough throughput for rudimentary
sharing of processing threads, or graphics processing. Aren't the newest processors for Intel (Sandy bridge) and AMD (Fusion) supporting more of a networking connection between
their respective components on the processor die. My question would be how much faster are the connections in gb per second are the average intra chip components compared to
a Thunderbolt inter chip / computer connection? My other question deals with adding more functionality to a Tablet computer to give it the ability to act as an external monitor
when pared/connected to a laptop through a usb connection. Is this just a matter of driver software, if both the tablet computer and laptop were running windows?
P.S. I hope Microsoft, If they develop a branded tablet computer, adds the ability to tether their tablet to a laptop with a usb cable. I would like the tablet computer to be able to
access the internet through my laptop using a full networking connection, at home, I connect my laptop to the internet through an eithernet cable and not a wireless router.
