home network
Hi, I have 3 machines. 1 PC running Windows 7 home premium, 1 laptop running windows 7 home premium, and 1 netbook running windows xp sp3. The 2 windows 7 machines see each other on the network etc. the xp machine can see the other 2 and can transfer files etc with the laptop but when connecting to the PC it requires login and password? The 2 windows 7 machines don't see the netbook. The windows 7 machines have Kaspersky Internet security 2010 and the netbook has microsoft security essentials. What should the settings on all machine be so as to see each other and allow transfer of files etc? Thank you for your help.

Hi, I would like to suggest: On Windows XP machine: 1. Disable Microsoft Security Essentials and turn off Windows Firewall. 2. Enable Guest account in Windows XP. 3. Change the permissions on shared files, add Everyone under Sharing tab and Security tab. On Windows 7 machine: 1. Disable Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and turn off Windows Firewall. 2. Turn on Network discovery and turn on file and printer sharing. 1) Open Advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click Change advanced sharing settings. 2) Click the chevron to expand your current network profile. 3) Click Turn on network discovery, click Turn on file and printer sharing, and then click Save changes. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. BTW, you can also consider create a HomeGroup for file sharing. Best Regards Dale
