internet low-mic utility tool has stopped working
I seem to get this error randomly but quite often. A popup message box appears showing the above message, and these are the details from it: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: IELowutil.exe Application Version: 8.0.7600.16385 Application Timestamp: 4a5bc695 Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16385 Fault Module Timestamp: 4a5bdbdf Exception Code: 0eedfade Exception Offset: 0000b727 OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 4105 Additional Information 1: e4ae Additional Information 2: e4ae116e66562a803941a33f7745338a Additional Information 3: 2cc0 Additional Information 4: 2cc05e525eb58e88a7e93ced513394af After you dismiss the warning, another popup comes up, with an Internet Explorer logo, and says: "Runtime error 217 at 0018900B". I'm not really using Internet Explorer, my default browser is Firefox, so I don't know why it should even come up. Any idea what it is?

Hi, What does ielowutil.exe have to do with Internet Explorer 8.0? http://blogs.msdn.com/askie/archive/2009/03/12/what-does-ielowutil-exe-have-to-do-with-internet-explorer-8-0.aspx 1. Does the behavior persist (in IE8 32-bit) if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 2. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your subscription current, and is it supported in Win7? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? 3. Has another Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? 4. If you uninstall Chrome, reassert IE as your default browser, and then run this fix, does the behavior persist? => http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=4c894d24ab6fac2d&hl=en PS: What do you think of the effects installing/uninstalling Chrome (which is still in beta) has on the Registry? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Does the behavior persist (in IE8 32-bit) if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 Well, I'll give that a shot. 2. I use AVG as my resident antivirus, and various utilities as my anti-spyware, none of which are running resident. Don't use Norton or McAfee, and will never ever use them. They were never originally installed on my machine, as I built my own machine from scratch. It's irrelevant, I said in the original message that my default browser is Firefox, not Chrome. I won't be uninstalling Firefox, I'd rather uninstall Internet Explorer, but that's of course impossible under Windows. However, I still happen to get these Internet Explorer messages popping up at random times even though I don't use it. So I'm just trying to get rid of the IE messages while peacefully browsing in Firefox.

Hi, I suppose your issue is caused by the AVG, please try to uninstall it to have a test. Because it does not play nice with IE8. Otherwise, please do not install so many anti-virus softwares, only one is enough. Sometimes they may conflict with another one. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. please download this reg file from my SkyDrive: http://cid-128fc518635be2dc.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/MS%20Foren/Registry/LocalDumps.reg and make a double click on the file to import it. When an application crashes, Windows Error Reporting Service [1] creates a dmp file under C:\Localdumps. Please upload the dump (zip it first) to your public Skydrive [2] folder and post the link here. I take a look at the dump with the Debugger, maybe I can see the cause. As I said, I never had Norton or McAfee ever installed on this system, at least since it's been running Windows 7 anyways. Anyway, I'm trying your suggestion of resetting IE. I'll see if there's another crash sometime soon. As I said, the crashes happen randomly, I haven't determined anything that causes a recurring crash yet.

it adds a key to generate dumps when an application crashes. Read the link under [1] to see that it changes. You can open it with notepad to see it."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

André "A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/ Interesting, why would it even be involved with the ielowutil? I'll remove it, and monitor the situation for a few days before I mark it as the answer. Thanks. This program was something I have used since this computer ran XP, it's used to type accented & special text characters that aren't part of the standard keyboard. So I can live without it, but I'll have to find an alternative for it at some point. I checked its homepage (link ), and it says it's compatible with XP, and partly compatible with Vista, and no mention of W7. So it looks like something starting with Vista became incompatible with it.
