I would ask the school for the password. If they won't tell you then you could type the words "forgot windows password" into a Google search box and use one of the many free solutions. Note also that being given a free PC is a wonderful thing but you should seriously consider buying your own version of Windows and installing it. Here are the two main reasons:You do not know what's on this PC. It might be riddled with viruses or it might have sufferent serious damage by students using it as a playground PC.Sooner or later you will need a Windows DVD in order to install, modify or repair something.

I'm suspecting that the school didn't intend for you to use the installed OS. I agree with Pegasus's statements. Even if they did and would give you the password, you are in fro a lot of trouble. In addition to the concerns about viruses and malware, this computer is obviously set up to log onto a school domain or work group. This is going to make you life miserable. You will be spending a lot of time trying to figure out what they did and cleaning it up. Get your hands on an XP disk (try e-bay) and do a format/install. You'll be much happier.. Depend on your school or country , you might be able to get free version of Windows , but your school should be subscribe to Microsoft its called MSDN AA and may be school subscribe using different license option.Check your school admin and ask them whether you could get free software or not,you could try :http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/academic/dd861349.aspx

You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses andspyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebodyelse's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc., and Iwouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either. And if you don't have a Windows CD, you should buy one. If you don't,you're playing with fire. Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) since 2003 Ken Blake
