Hi,If you only had one administrative user account and that's the one you were using and you've forgotten the password, the first thing to try is to boot into Safe Mode.Refer the below link for more information on how to get into Safe Mode.A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222a. The built-in Administrator account is disabled by default.b. You will see an icon for Administrator on the Welcome Screen in Safe Mode.c. Log in (the password will be a blank) and then go to Control Panel>User Accounts and change the password for your own user account to something you will remember. Also refer to the below link:How to log on to your Windows XP-based computer if you forget your password or if your password expires?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305If nothing works, then Microsoft Support Engineers cannot help you retrieve passwords of files and features in Microsoft products that are lost or forgotten. What was the name of the account/profile that you changed your password to no password? (I assume that's what you mean by "delete." If not, what did you do? Did you perhaps delete the entire account?)How many accounts do you have altogether? Are you running XP Home or XP Pro?

running x pro,I believe I deleted my administrator ,I only had the two..adm/guess.I have a 2400 Dell w/service pack 3 that I bought off the web. when I go to safe mode w/contol, I have no users to choose from.I have yet to learn just the basics with and about computers

Believe? There is a built-in profile that is actually called Administrator. Also, you can create as many accounts as you like that have administrative privileges. So, are you saying you actually deleted the Administrator account?! If so, how did you do this?If not, please explain better what you did. The phrase "deleted my administrator" doesn't really make much sense...What do you mean by "safe mode w/control"? Do you mean Control Panel and then User Accounts? If you do open up User Accounts, you can click where it says "Change the way users log on or off." Then you can uncheck the box next to "Use the Welcome screen" and hit Apply Options. In the future you will see the classic logon prompt. You can enter the word Administrator as the user and don't enter anything for the password (presumably it's blank).Does that work?In the future, never touch the Administrator account! (And if you assign a password to it -- always a good idea -- make sure you write down this password because you will eventually need it.) It is there really only for emergencies. Like I said before, you can create accounts that have administrative privileges. If you're the only one using this PC, one strategy is to use the Administator account to create a new profile (let's call it tralee16admin) with administrative privileges. Then you can create another profile for everyday use with limited privileges (you could call it tralee16). For the times you need admin privileges (like to install a program), you could log off your everyday profile and log on as trale116admin to install the program and then switch back.

Two other ideas. After Googling I found this thread:http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic65.htmlScroll all the way down to cavinda's post to see if that matches your situation and helps. The other idea was referenced by Manasa P, but I'm not sure if you tried it. It's from this page:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305To log on to a computer as the administrator to reset a password, try the following steps.Log on as an administrator.Restart the computer. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE two times, and then type the name of the administrator user account.Note If you do not know any other administrator user account, try to type Adminstrator in theUser name box. In the Password box, type the administrator password, and then clickOK. Note If you do not know the administrator password, leave it blank, and then click OK.Reset the password.Click Start, and then click Run. Type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.On the Users tab, click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for, and then clickReset Password. Type a new password in the New password box, and then type the password again in theConfirm new password box, and then click OK. Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows XP again.

You need to check the documentation that came with the PC. If they didn't supply a disk of any kind, they either provided you with a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive or instructed you to create your own recovery media by running a particular program designed for that.If you are still unsure, what is the make and model of your PC. Someone should be able to tell you your options.
