If you've forgotten your Windows password, there are several ways to retrieve or reset it:

If your PC is on a domain, your system administrator must reset your password.

If you're using a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online. For more info, go to the Reset your password webpage.

If you're using a local account, use your password hint as a reminder.

If you've tried these suggestions and still can't sign in, you'll need to reinstall Windows.

 

Here is the 100% working solution very simple to follow

I just fixed mine couple of minutes ago on windows 10 so decided to share with you as many of the dumb users like me having the same problem can also work on windows 8

you are lucky like me  that you have pin to access the windows

so what you need to do is set up another local account

make that account your administrator

sign out from your account

login in that account

then jump into user accounts in control panel

open your account and their will be the option of changing password

you will see that it will not ask you for the previous password (as you logged in as administrator )

so after resetting make your account administrator again by changing account type sign out from the account and try that new password on your account. it will work 

now all you need  to do is delete that new  account so you  can have only one account that is yours

note-always create a password reset disk which I also did now only

   and set just local account  password so you cannot forget it using the other options like pin pattern etc
