mouse tapping is terrible!!! hate it!!!
The mouse tap feature is annoying at best. I've got vista ultimate and since I updated it now has windows 7 features, ie mouse tapping. I absolutely hate it!!! The instructions listed here, do not work. I've gone to ease of use and deselected "activate a window by hovering..." Actually I had done that before and it was already unchecked. Another forum suggested under mouse options there would be a "tapping" enable box, but I don't have that option. Please help

Well, there's your mistake. Due to the urgency to reply, nobody will read a whole paragraph. The option's not there? I'll bet that's frustrating. If I had 5 medals, I might be able to help. It's a feature of the touchpad drivers. My notebook has a checkbox for mouse tapping in the control panel for the Synaptics touchpad controller. I haven't paid much attention to it because I rarely use the touchpad. (I have a wireless mouse.) I believe that the drivers came through Windows Update, which means that they are third-party drivers distributed by Microsoft. If you can't locate such a checkbox, try support from your notebook maker. They may be friendlier if you simply ask them if it's possible to turn the feature off, rather than demanding that it be turned off because you hate it.

I hate it too. Never have been able to figure out how to disable it at the login screen. No way to shut it off in Recovery mode either. Anywhere you can't load the driver, you're just plain stuck with that thing. Any icon you touch, it activates. It sucks. If I only had one finger left, I'd still disable it.

Hi Noel. Hey, that's really very decent of you to respond. I'm surprised. It's totally uncommon. Thanks. I'd delete my ealier post, but it actually contains some helpful links. Three pictures of the Synaptics TouchPad setup. Probably, nobody'd notice if I didn't mention it. Hope you don't mind if I leave it intact. If you'd like, I can tone it down. Maybe I had a couple scoops too.

I have no problems with admitting when I'm at fault - I just wish that others were the same :) IMNSHO, there are certain people who should never have been awarded certain honours, and who yet still hold those honours (and 'more'). I intend to make it part of my mission to ensure that their shortcomings are brought to light, and that the awards as a result are no longer given. I know that there are parts of the community that agree with me on this - but it's a case of 'Softly, Softly, Catchee Monkey' :) (how about that for not saying what you *really* think? <g>) -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
