need to get my new Vista laptop to connect to my wireless internet set up on a Win XP desktop
I have 3 computers as listed below. I am having difficulty with the Vista laptop and networking.
Computer A
HP pavilion a250e
Win XP Home
Wired internet
Speedstream DSL modem
Belkin G wireless router
AVG free virus and spam
Zone Alarm
Computer B
HP Pavilion 900Z laptop
Win XP Home
Belkin Wireless card
AVG free virus and spam
Zone Alarm
Computer C
HP Pavilion tx 1000
Vista Basic
Internal wireless card
I can connect B to the wireless internet thru the router. I have never been able to connect A to B for file sharing. I am not concerned about that.
I have attempted to set up C to use the wireless internet connection. It does not want to work. It recognizes "bobbieswireless" but cannot connect and cannot find CASEY.
I have A set up with wireless network settings of
SSID: CASEY
Network Key: 26 digits
Key Provided Automatically (802.1x): 0
Network authentication type: open
Data encryption type" WEP
Connection type: ESS
Key Index:
I have attempted to connect to the wireless network. I get a page asking for the security key and after I enter it, I am told it is incorrect. I used the key I had set up before and, when it did not work, I reset the key. It still does not work.
I tried your suggestion to add the IP address of C to ZoneAlarm. I searched help and it said to find the IP address, open Network and Sharing Center. I did. Then under Connection, View Status. In the network and sharing center, it tells me that I have limited connectivity on wireless network (bobbieswireless) with an excellent signal strength but I still cannot connect to the internet nor can I see the other computers.
Laptop C tells me that it is the only computer on the network, bobbieswireless. I cannot get it to recognize CASEY.
I attempted to use Laptop C with both of the other computers shut down and it still would not connect to the internet.
I would appreciate any and all suggestions?
Thanks, Bobbie

Hi Bobbie,
Thank you for the post.
Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following points with you:
1. What is the network topology of this environment?
2. What is bobbieswireless? Another wireless network in this environment?
3. Is CASEY the SSID of the wireless router connecting to the DSL modem?
4. Is the wireless router configured not to broadcast the SSID?

Thank you, Joson. I finally got it working when I reset my online router info. Unfortunately, I then lost Computer B from being able to view the network, but I am certain that is a question for a different forum. Thanks. Bobbie
