new owner, old computer: how to change ownership?
I'm recovering from a near-fatal brain injury. A friend has given me his old laptop and permission to try to make it useful in my rehabilitation. I'm trying to take ownership without losing access to his files (which I'm trying to collect and offload onto other media) and without sacrificing the software he's already paid for.Any advice?1 person needs an answerI do too

Create a new user for yourself from Control Panel>User Accounts. As for the registered owner: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_change_owner.htm - Change the registered owner/company This will do nothing to help with taking ownership of files however. I'm not sure why you need to do this anyway, but to take ownership of files: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 How Do I Get the Security tab in Folder Properties? - http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_security_tab.htm MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
