no wireless
Hi, have just got a new compaq presario laptop and am unable to connect to internet wirelessly in vista. Wired it is fine and very fast. The router (cablewireless) is situated right next to it and vista shows i have excellent strength. I have set up the wireless network ok and vista sees it, but i cannot connect as it repeatedly tells me the network security key is wrong. I have tried every one of the four pre defined keys with no joy, and have even set my own passphrase but still no joy. The router is set for wpa preshared key security with my own passphrase. Any help much appreciated. (ps have disabled firewall too, made no difference)

Hi, Please make sure you have selected the correct network security. I think you have choosen WPA instead of WPA. Regards, Johan visit my site: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hi Johan, I suggest that you try to upgrade the driver for the network adapter, and upgrade the BIOS for the wireless router first. If the issue persists, try to disable WPA and WEP in the router, and check if the wireless connection works properly. If the issue does not occur, try to reset the key in the router. If the issue still occurs, I suggest that you take the computer to another wireless network if it is possible, and let me know if the wireless connection works properly. Regarding detailed steps for properly configuring the router, please refer the instruction of the device, or contact the router's manufacturer.
