password dialog delay on unlocking workstation
Why is there a 5 - 7 (and sometimes longer) delay to display the password field when unlocking my workstation? For example, I lock my machine, when I come back I press ctrl+alt+del and wait for 5 - 7 seconds until the password field is available so I can type in my password and the machine then unlocks into windows. I have a new Asus Zenbook with windows 7 x64, SSD drive and 4gb ram. Same behaviour whether I'm on the domain or out of office and happens every time whether I lock and leave for 1 minute or 100 minutes, same if I am wired or wireless. Stranger still is another zenbook in our office with the exact same specs and windows doesn't have this issue (press ctrl+alt+del and it instantly displays the password field so the user can enter the password). Help ;-)

When you boot up in the morning does this same issue occur or only when you are "unlocking?" If it is only when you are unlocking I would have that other person(or a IT tech)login with their credentials and see if the issue remains. If they do not have the issue then your profile might be corrupt and could need to be re-created.

Hi, Please let us know whether the issue occurred when you first time to login or only when you are "unlocking?" Then try the following steps: 1. Use the local account to test whether the issue happens. 2. Test the issue in Clean Boot mode. 3. Disable "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" policy under Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Logon in the Group Policy Hope this helps. Thanks for the feedback, please see the following: Bootup in the morning does not present the issue. A local account does not present the issue (when booting or unlocking) Group policy "Always wait..." is not enabled on the server or the laptop. Wonder which aspect of the profile is causing this?

This could be caused by GPO Require Domain Controller authentication to unlock workstation (looks for domain controller each time) or Interactive Logon: Number of previous logons to cache (set to 0)

If it was a GPO then I would think that "wait" period would happen to everyone in your corporation. Right?

I have tried in clean boot mode and the results were confusing... upon having gone through disabling the services the issue still presented. Then I started all services and went through the startup items and at first the issue wasn't happening any longer. So I started enabling startup items, got all the way through and it still wasn't happening. change to normal boot, login after reboot and it's happening again. I will try to go through it again but it is very strange that I can't seem to narrow it down to a specific exe.
