ping problem
I've read the related topics and none of them help. My new Windows 7 Pro desktop computer (Doc2) can ping every machine on my network by IP address. It can also ping every machine on my network, except one (LinuxServer), by name. Although LinuxServer is properly configured within the domain as 192.168.10.7, when Doc2 tries to ping it by name, it reports "pinging LinuxServer [208.68.139.38] Request timed out". All the other computers on my network can ping LinuxServer by name All the computers on my network (including LinuxServer) can ping Doc2 by name. I am able to map network drives off LinuxServer to Doc2. It seems the only thing I can't do is ping it by name. Any suggestions?M. David Johnson

You need to properly add LinuxServer in your DNS server's dnsmgmt console's ForwardLookupZone. Just adding it to Active Directory is not sufficient. Start|Run|dnsmgmt.msc. Expand ForwardLookupZone. Expand domain. Click on Add host.M. David Johnson
