powercfg battery report statistics reset

The battery in my laptop has recently been replaced and I would like to clear all the information that is currently shown such as the capacity (old one is 4400 mAh and the new one is 5200 mAh) and usage stats so that it only reflects the new battery not the old one.

Is there any way of doing this without having to reinstall the OS?

Hi,

As I known, this command cannot clear the information you would like to clear.

After run the Process monitor when running Powercfg /energy, I noticed that it will read the battery information via Device driver which mapped in this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{..........}

So I suppose the battery information can be read properly via ACPI bus.

We may try to reinstall the Battery driver under Device manager to see if the related information can be reset.

Post back if you get any update.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply but unfortunately reinstalling the battery driver did not have any effect that I can tell.  The stats still reflect the old  battery.

It's starting to look like the only solution will be reinstalling Win8.1 or waiting until Win10 is released.

Hello,

You can generate the report for a specified time period which may help.

Powercfg /energy /duration 30

Powercfg /batteryreport /duration 30

Where the 30 would be the number of days since you replaced the battery.( replace 30 with the actual number of days since you replaced the battery.

I am more concerned about how the battery capacity is only being reported as 4400mAh instead of 5200mAh and how the battery life/charging estimates are calculated.

I know that the battery is lasting longer then the old one but it isn't as long as the original did when it was new. (it now lasts about 2.5h vs 1-1.5h; when new it was 3h+)  Granted the new one is some random one off of Amazon but...

I read about this issue with the Surface devices and one solution for them was to flash the latest firmware.  I tried that with a new bios I had been putting off installing but there was no change.

In any case, Win10 is out in less then 2 months so I'll probably just have to wait until then.

Hi,

Would please check the serial number in Battery report?

Is it matched your new battery?

Can this issue be fixed by updating BIOS version?

The serial number is not reported for either battery.

I updated the bios but it had no effect on the report except that the new bios version is reported properly at the top of the report so where ever it is getting that info it's dynamic.

I also played around with trying to pull the info using PowerShell to get the battery info from WMI but it wasn't successful.

Hi,

I mean the serial number as below in battery report, does is match your new battery?

Also, you can see the history, does this match your new battery?

No serial number is shown (for either battery).  It only show a -

Here are copies of the reports from the new and old batteries.

I do some deep research, the report depends on the driver for battery which should use IOCTL_BATTERY_QUERY_INFORMATION function to read the battery information, it's not only related to Windows.

Till now, I have no idea to help you further and let's wait for other community members who may have any ideas on this issue.

Thanks for your understanding.
