printer drivers will not delete

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 on a brand new computer. My faithful laserjet 2100 would not work. However, the printer (several copies of it) show up in MS Word, Excel and other programs when I go to print. I replaced the printer with an HP LaserJet Pro 400 MFP and now I'm getting copies of this printer also when I try to print.

The dilemma is that the laserjet 2100 (several copies of it) are in the print queue when I try to print a document even after I removed the drivers from the system. How do I get rid of these copies?

Marymajik,

It sounds like while youve removed the drivers for your old LaserJet 2100, the computer thinks that printer still exists and is defaulting to a generic driver.

The good news is, its easy to remove any old printers and any copies that might exist by following these steps:

  1. Go into Devices and Printers by swiping in from the right edge of the screen and tap Search.  (If using a mouse, point your mouse to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and click Search.)  Type in Devices and Printers.
  2. Once the window comes up, youll see your printer(s) and any copies.  Right-click on any of the ones you want to remove and select Remove Device.
  3. Continue following step 2 until youve removed your old printer, all of its copies and any copies you might see for your new printer
  4. Right-click your new printer and select Set as default printer.

I hope this helps!
