OE6 came with the very first XP ever made and was still there when the last was made. Your computer could not have upgraded to OE6 since it was already present, and there has been no upgrades to OE in more than four years. Please explain a little more exactly what happened.Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA

our computer got an automatic update and when we went to outlook express to check mail all our in box,out box, deleted, etc. was vacant and all that was there was an email from the Microsoft Express Team welcoming us to Outlook Express 6. I called our internet provider and they said they could do nothing to help retrieve the lost emails and they just had the message about Internet Explorer 6. Any suggestions would be appreciated.thanks

It sounds like your OE message store may have become corrupt and Windows created a new one. McAfee and Norton's e-mail scanning used to be the #1 culprits, but any e-mail scanning can cause it these days. You may be SOL if you never backed up your messages, but let's see if there is anything on your machine we can get back. Check the following, but don't do anything before posting back.1: Check the Recycle Bin for bak files. If they are there, note the date created.2: Check to see if you have more than one OE identity. File | Identities | Manage Identities. Is there more than one, or just the one you have now?3: Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. After you select the button to Show Hidden Files and Folders, do a search and search for *.dbxPost back with the results from these three tasks. If you have no luck at all, your only chance to possibly retrieve messages is with this tool.DBXpresshttp://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspxYou may need to run it in the Extract From Disk Mode if its normal recovery mode fails to find the lost messages.Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA
