reinstall Win7 Windows Update
Problem has been going on for months with Win 7 updates. Message "Windows could not search for new updates", Error Code 80070005 (which windows says is an unknown error). Updates for other software work. To the best of my knowledge all other software works. Purchased system software to detect/fix system errors, didn't fix Win 7 Updates problem. Have tried a few social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums fixes without success. Last unsuccessful try was " http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistasetup/thread/61ce9777-aaac-41b5-ac02-eae76759d1d3/ ". Also purchased online tech-support who worked 8+hrs without success, finally they gave up. My question, can "Windows Update" be reinstalled? If yes, How do I go about it. If Not, I would like to try copying necessary "Win7 Update Files" from another Win7 system into mine. That is if you can provide a list of all files necessary including Windows Register keys. Any other suggestion if none of the above is possible.

What do you expect in MS forum, when you use third party program, that alters system behaviour? First try to place your problem in support forum of 3rd party program vendor. From the MS point of view i would: 1. Check the system with sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt 2. Run readiness tool 3. Do in-place update. Regards Milos

You can reset the Windows Update components: read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 971058. Before doing that, I suggest you to try downloading and running the System Update Readiness Tool (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool), that can help fix problems that might prevent Windows updates and service packs from installing.
