HiI need to setup a vpn connection using pptp. But however i'm not able to find it.When searching at google I can see several pictures setting up vpn, where you have to choose pptp as the type of vpn at the security tab, when setting the properties for your vpn connection. However I don't have that possibility. The "type of vpn" is not visible. The first point at my security tab is data encryption.I'm running windows 7 ultimate danish edition

This will setupthe PPTP VPN client on your Win 7 machine...http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Set-up-a-remote-connection-to-your-workplace-using-VPNhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Why-am-I-having-problems-with-my-VPN-connectionOnce you get that setup you can open the Network and Sharing Center and use the Change adapter settings at the left to check/change the properties of the VPN connection you just created. Right click on the VPN connection and select Properties to do that. Note the VPN type defaults to Automatic so there really is no need to change that. It doesn't solve my problem. It seems like if the vpn type is set to automatic, it doesn't work. I'm not able to see if automatic is chosen, or to change it. The field is missing.http://cid-76c1a03ad6f26433.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=2When setting up my vpn connection, I can only chose pppoe.http://cid-76c1a03ad6f26433.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/vpn01.pngI get an error 651 when connecting.

Is this Windows 7 PC/laptop part of a domain? If so its possible your network admins at work have configured it via a group policy not to allow what your trying to do.MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"

No, unfortunately that is not the problem. It is installed on a pc, and is not a member of a domain. It's located in my own workgroup. I'm running a rtm version, but would that be a problem?

I do know I had no issues like this when I ran the RTM but I can't speak to the Danish version. Do you know of anyone else that has the same Danish RTM version that can create a PPTP VPN connection correctly? To be clear your creating or trying to create the VPN like this right?1. Open Network and Sharing Center2. Select Set up a new connection or network3. Select Connect to a workplace4. Then create the VPN as illustrated in this screen shot.MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"

Cool, thank you, you solved my problem. When I select "set up a new connection or network" I get the following screen: http://cid-76c1a03ad6f26433.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/vpn03.png If I select to configure the internet connection I get this screenshot: http://cid-76c1a03ad6f26433.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/vpn02.png But if I select to configure the internet connection later I'm ending up with the right screen: http://cid-76c1a03ad6f26433.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/vpn04.png Thanks for your help and patience
