startup repair cannot solve problem
Dell xps 420 with windows 7 upgrade installed. For some reason when computer was powered up I had to go to start up recovery and received message that start up repair cannot repair my problem. It does not give me any options at all except to go into start up repair again. I'm not given the option of restoring to previous date, etc. I tried my windows 7 upgrade discs to no avail. The F8 key did nothing. With the F12 key I got the error message 0147 about the optical drive and a spindle problem. I have added to or changed anything on this computer. Before this problem occurred, my cable connection internet went out and I tried it on a different cable outlet. Internet connection is working again. What can I do to even get to a restore screen? Anything?

Hi, May I know if you can boot from your Windows 7 upgrade disc? Please press F2 to enter your BIOS and select your CD/DVD drive as your first boot drive. Meanwhile, please check the cable and reseat your hard drive. If the computer boots from disc, you can access System Recovery Options to perform system restore. Niki Han TechNet Community Support
