Please let us know followiing ALL information request:(1) Your computer maker (HP/Dell/etc), Model #, (2) RAM size, Hard drive size, (3) Is it Laptop, Desktop or Netbook?(4) Monitor maker, model#(5) Do you have Firewall/Antivirus? Which?(6) Do you have computer connected to DSL modem (wired), or through family wireless router (e.g. Linksys).(7) WHEN DID YOU COMPUTER LAST WORKED NORMALLY...days, weeks, few hours ago(8) Any particilar site visitation caused crashing...e.g. going to some bank site you will see warning sign or something like that.==================================(1) Use CCleaner to clean junk temp file(2) use Defraggler to defrag the hard drive - better way than Microsoft.(3) wuacult and svchost indicates that there could be namesake trojans in your computer.(4) Having given general overview, there ahs been issues with Windows update that has caused a lot of people with computer operation. Please note thatWindows with Post-SP3 is going to be 20-30% slower than when you bought the computer.(5) It is my opinion that you should back up data and simply do a System Recovery to Original Factory Install state.(6) If you can spare money and increasing RAM could be more useful, since post-SP3 RAM requirement border 384-400MB. But if oyu have over 2GB, than it should not be the problem.(7) Install Programs on separate logical drive, so that only Windows program reside in the Primary Boot partition (Partition is same as drive..for layman term)* (8) Has your C Drive Permissions changed in any way? Are you still the Administrator and have admin previledges?

There's a known issue with older XP systems with 512 MB of RAM or less that are opted in to Microsoft Update (MU)becoming non-responsive and/ or locking up. MS is working on it but, for now, the temporary workaround is to opt out of MU back to Windows Update. To opt out of MU for now, please see - How to enable and to disable Microsoft UpdateMowGreen Update Services - Consumer Security

If the computer is opted in to Microsoft Update when you use Internet Explorer to check for updates it will go toupdate.microsoft.com/microsoftupdateIf it's updating from Windows Update, update.microsoft.com/windowsupdateGlad to hear the issue has been temporarily resolved. I'm not sure how you'll find out when a fix or permanent workaournd is available. If there is other Microsoft software installed you can always check the list of available Security updates here -http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspxAll Security updates issued each month are listed on that page in chronological order.Security updates come out the second Tuesday of each month. All updates issued each month are listed on this page - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894199Non-security updates come out the fourth Tuesday of each month.MowGreen Update Services - Consumer Security
