system image as restore dvd

I am told (here http://www.forumswindows8.com/general-discussion/9875-2.htm) that I should be able to copy a 8.1 pro 64 system image to a DVD. I'm working with two installs of it, one from windows store as upgrade to win 8, the other from TechNet  iso also run from and on to another win 8 partition. Both installs flawless, working better than ever.

I do not have, and am not sure I will hunt down and get, a VL iso for bare metal installs.

I don't like removable media that much but system wont boot from SSD.

I have these concerns:

1. I've been told media size/format can be an issue trying to put tyhis stuff on DVD, so I have ordered some larger capacity dual layer DVD-R. Until I get them, I can't tell if either the system image tool in file history or an ordinar attempt to burn a *.iso to a DVD will work, or not.

2. The idea is to have a bootable windows 8.1 DVD to handle system restore/repair type functions. HOW?

3. I have bootable windows 8.0 install *.iso, but am uncertain what they would think of a windows 8.1 system.
