tempory files created in users folders where they save documents, sometimes the docment is removed or deleted.
We are getting a lot of tempory files created in users folders where they save office documents (2010) (mainly) though i've seen it with Photoshop too. and i've had to use shadow copies to get back an earlier version of the file! the files are either about 8 Chars long.TMP or in the format of {6506291A-7B71-4B6D-8EE8-FAF92DFE1EF5}.tmp I was hoping that SP1 for Windows 7 would resolve this issue as there are a couple of threads here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/64826-windows-7-automatic-offline-files-occuring-all-shares.html that have similar issues and the Hotfixes are in SP1 however i have this morning seen the creation of Temp files from a machine i have put SP1 on. Our Win 7 Workstations have Offile Lines Disabled, our Win 7 laptops have it enabled but the problem appears on both. This never seems to happen if the user uses an XP workstation. i wasn't sure if this was related but our users access all there network drives via a domain DFS http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2434932 I Have disabled IPv6 Our files are stored on Server 2008 predominatley though is DFS replicated to a 2008R2 server though the users aren't targeted to this. My instinct is this happens if the Network is busy and a little unresponsive, say when a student is rendering a video and thus writing a few GBs to his / her home area, as i haven't seen this with the support staff whos home drives are stored on a different server. Has anyone seen anything similar??

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. Please make sure to disable offline files using both GPO and locally. 1. Explorer -> Tools -> folder options-> Offline files -> uncheck the Enable offline files checkbox. 2. Get to the group policy editor and Computer configuration-> Administrative templates ->Network -> offline files -> Disable "Allow or disallow use of the offline files feature". Modification in SYSTEM.ADM will completely disable Offline Files on XP. For Windows 7 to make this happens we have to configure below Group Policies at the Domain based GPO. “Prohibit user configuration of Offline Files” and set it to “Enabled”.
