Hi WattoSilver, ·What is the service pack installed on your computer? Check if the issue persists in safe mode, to boot the computer in safe mode:a. Restart the computer and press and hold F8 key (Press and hold f8 key before the windows logo).b. From the advanced boot option select ‘Safe mode’. Thanks stopping WIA appears to have done the trick. Could you explain what this does and will it have any knock-on effect elsewhere? I also imaging that it will restart on boot up so do I have to carry out the stop procedure each time?Your help is greatly appreciated.ThanksNon techie user with problems

Hi WattoSilver, Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) enables imaging programs, such as Microsoft Picture It! 2000, Kodak Imaging, or Adobe Photoshop, to communicate with imaging devices such as digital cameras and scanners. WIA supports digital still cameras and both low-end and high-end scanners; it also enables you to retrieve still images from IEEE 1394-based digital video (DV) camcorders and Universal Serial Bus (USB) Web cameras.
