hithankyou for responding i have a dell demension 3000 mircosoft xp home edition. i would like to delete xp and reinstall it om my computer. i deleted the srver pack 3 amd i did nothing. can you help me thanksPlease use the "reply" link rather than starting a new thread. It makes things very hard to follow when you do the latter. Your original question and my earlier response are below. You still haven't answered most of the questions I asked, particularly why you want to (or think you have to) reinstall Windows.I don't know -- because you haven't answered the question -- what Dell provided to you with your computer. Some Dell computers come (came?) with a Windows install CD, a Dell driver CD, and perhaps a Dell application CD. Other Dell computers only come with a restore mechanism built in to the computer. The latter will ONLY permit you to restore the computer to the state is was when it left the factory -- that is, with none of the programs, documents, pictures, email, or other data that you may have added to the computer while you have had it.Rather than continue to guess what you have, I suggest that you review the following Dell article:http://www.support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?&docid=347576"Step 3" of that article, manually reinstalling Windows, may give you the option to do a repair install (which will theoretically not remove your applications or data). If you have a "real" Windows XP CD (and I don't know if the "Dell Operating System Reinstallation CD/DVD" is one), then see http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/instxprepair1.htm Of course, even if you have the media to do a repair install, that may not be your best choice if the reason that you want to reinstall Windows is that your computer has become severely infected with viruses and other malware.****************************************************************************Helloi would like to reprogram my windows xp. in other words i would like to get a fresh start.thankyou, mattWhat are you trying to accomplish? What install media do you have? A retail CD for XP (upgrade or full)? A "restore" CD provided by your computer manufacturer? No external media but a hidden restore partition?Do you have install media for all of your applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, games, etc.)?Do you have backups of all your data (e.g., documents and pictures)?Do you have a driver CD provided by your computer manufacturer or have you obtained the necessary drivers? What is the make/model of your computer?
