Hi Enkidoe, There can be many reasons. You say Windows is slow but your example is related to Internet Explorer. Is it only IE8 or the the entire system? IE8 hangs are typically due to third party add-ons. Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/ie_performance_and_safety/en-us?entrypoint=lightbox If it's the entire system, did the computer behave this way immediately after installing Windows 7? If yes, then it's related to the BIOS, motherboard drivers, device drivers, or the hardware configuration. If no, then it's an application that you installed. First, click start, type event in the search box and select event viewer from the results and check the critical and errors list. What did you find? Next, right-click the flag in the notification area and select troubleshoot a problem. Run any or all of the trouble shooters. Another quick check is to disconnect the internet connection, temporarily disable the any anti-virus program and observe the performance. Multiple security applications can conflict. Some security programs need the absolute current version for Windows 7. Try to provide some more information about the problem, your version of Windows 7 x86 or x64, and your hardware for specific assistance.

It depends if you want a toy or a machine that actually does work. If you want a toy, you have what you bought. Windows 7 is full of trash that kids love to play with. But most adults prefer to "take the trash out" because there actually are a few people on this planet that need a machine that actually does work. First thing I do when installing any Microsoft operating system is right click My Computer --> Properties --> Advanced --> Performance --> Settings --> Adjust for best performance. This takes out lots of trash. Then you can fight everything hidden in the Control Panel, or you can go GodMode where everything is pretty easy to find. Just Google GodMode Windows 7 and you should find it. Once you get GodMode going you can just go down the list and take more trash out.

i would love to create a clean windows 7 without all the stuff i dont need, but i just dont know where to start. i downloaded several light windows 7's from the internet but i dont know if they are safe. Also, i do enable the adjust for performance option. Btw, about the internet explorer; i installed 9 beta. Also, about the eventvwr; the eventlog doesnt record any hangs or errors(only when i terminate a program through the taskbar)
