Hi, there is a very nice technet article on how to tackle such an issue: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee619779(WS.10).aspx Unfortunately there are appearantly missing components. If you have no similar configuration at hand, it might be a cumbersome process to restore the needed files.MCP/MCSA/MCTS/MCITP

When I search the failing computer I find several hits on dgloss (the first missing thing) It exists in 4 locations. How can it be missing if it is already there? Makes no sense. c:\windows\winsxs c:\windows\winsxs\mainifests (twice) c:\windows\help\windows\en-us NC Bob

When I search for these "missing" files they are all there on the hard drive multiple times. They do not exist on another x86 install of W7. How can it think they are missing when I can see them in search.NC Bob

Hi, Error is Error_SXS_Component_Store_Corrupt (0x80073712) means the SidebySide database is corrupted, so you cannot repair system files via SFC. I suggest you to make an In-place upgrade to repair the system. No. The computer is basically operating fine, I would like to install the SP but doing an in place upgrade as the only option seems ludicrous to me. I will wait it out. I would hope that someone from MSFT who knows something about installing service packs would wander across the post. If not I may call for help.NC Bob

I was able to get free help from MSFT. I had to do an upgrade install of W7 which retained everything. Just took awhile. Then I was able to install the SP. NC Bob
