using outlook express 6 with programs it is tied to
I use 4 dell towers, 3 dimension 8100 and 1 4600. All are loaded with IE6 and OE6. OE is tied to a number of programs both MS and non MS. One of them is OPEN OFFICE. I wrote a letter recently using OO and attempted to send it via email(OE6) only built in choice.. Error "CANNOT FIND WORKING EMAIL APPLICATION". I went to desktop, opened OE, attempted an email, same error. I tried other programs all same error. I went to ALL PROGRAMS. NOT on any list! Even an internal search came up empty. I tried a SYSTEM RESTORE. "INCOMPLETE" as usual. With nothing else to try I ended up reloading the OS, XP PRO, and then all my programs yet again. OE6 is now stable and performs as designed. As a check I looked at the other 2. Both had similar issues. For #2 however a SR DID work for a while until the OE icon and program disappeared on its own. A second SR did NOT work. OS reload yet again. For #3 icon WAS there, program was not. Yet another SR was tried with success. For #4 all was well. Why all the variables is a mystery to me. Fortunatly I have multiple copies of of my DELL OS CD so no key is asked for. The MS version is also included on the same CD. Of course I have NO key that the process will accept since these towers were upgraded to XP by someone else in the past with whatever CD worked for him or her. If there was another way of getting out of this mess sort of reloading the OS I would like to know about it. Reloading OE6 alone, reloading IE6 with the included OE6 would be nice as well. My goal here is to tell my sad story in the hope it can help other non techies like me. Any replies with suggestions, solutions will be welcome.

PS---,My web based email programs and my mail client program all work well from any program for attachments and emails as well. I use Gmail, Yahoo, Koo Mail. I have all my email accounts listed in Koo with the exception of Yahoo because the FREE program does not allow the use of clients. Only the PRO does. I LOVE FREE! As a back up I installed COMODO TIME MACHINE, the one and only FREE MS SR alternative in existence. It works every time and is isolated from outside bad guys. It has protected other towers well. SE seems not to work when I REALLY need it to. Any help there would be welcome. I hope this helps others. Did I mention I really love FREE?

... I wrote a letter recently using OO and attempted to send it via email(OE6) only built in choice.. Error "CANNOT FIND WORKING EMAIL APPLICATION".I suspect you'll find that Open Office (like many other applications) requires a Full MAPI mail client (e.g., MS Outlook) to be able to SEND a file. Outlook Express is a Simple MAPI mail client and therefore incompatible.A workaround would be to save the file to your HDD & then attach it to a new OE message. You will find continuing support for OE in this forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpnetwork/threads ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ Disclaimer: MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft
