vista OS and Linksys wireless router setup
I have not moved to vista plus, still on xp pro.I need the steps in vista o/s to setting up neighbor new laptop to recognize the linksys wireless router, since I am not familiar with vista plus.My neighbor has purchase new laptop vista hm, with built in wifibut states shehas to have her linksys wireless routergoing thru her old pc, instead of her new pc since it won't recognize the new pc. To me this is a ip issue, and setup on new pc, but I am notfamiliar with vistaOS, and dont want to screw up her current connection. She wants meto set up her wireless router to recognize the new pc directly. Since I am not familiar with vista I would like steps thru vista so I can do this. Can someone assist me. Background on me: I was on help desk for 8 years certified with 2000 and prior os, but havent been keeping up to date with new OS since laid off in 2003. Thanks, Mcalhad

Actually, connecting to a wireless network in Vista is rather simple.Control Panel > Network andInternet > connect to a network (under Network and Sharing Center, at the top.)Select the SSID, hit Connect, and enter the key as necessary. The first things that come to mind that would keep the new lappy from connecting, and solutions:1- MAC filtering is enabled on the router (enter MAC address of lappy's WLAN adapter; or, disable MAC filtering.)2- Vista has an issue with WPA2 (and, sometimes, WPA)-enabled networks that do not broadcast their SSID. In this circumstance, Vista can't determine the encryption method, and therefore fails authentication (enable SSID broadcast, or change encryption level down; first option preferred.)
