vista requests PPPoE
My router does not require PPPoE and Vista network connection wizard requires a "dial up" cable broadband connection. Can I get to a place where I set up the broadband connection with no request for a PPPoE? Ken K

Yeah, in Windows XP. I'm having the same issue. I'm using Vonage, and I have DSL, which requires the PPoE, but that is already managed by the vonage router. In other words, the router initiates and holds the internet connection and my computer gets it through the router. But Vista doesn't care, it still wants to "dial" something. It's telling me I'm not on the internet as I type this actually...

Thank you for your comments. Further evaluations may be the same for us..we are online direct from cable modem even as it asks for a username and password. Ken

If you added a piece of network equipment that is performig authentication via PPPoE, then something had to be doing it before. I would check your connections tab under internet options and see if there is a connection listed. If there is, that is probably your issue (that is, if you don't have any VPNs configured). If you see your internet connection listed, then remove it and set up a broadband connection that is always on with the network connection wizard. Now, when your PC is connected to your router, you should have no more issues.

Thank you for your answer. We are no longer getting the request for username and passport because the network cable connection works well without our requesting a broadband connection in the network connections choices. So we have tended to ignore it. If we were to request a broadband connection, then it would ask for a username and password. I just followed your advice and removed the dial up broadband and changed name of the wired broadband connection. This seems to have done everything we wanted. I appreciate your help. Ken
