Hi tareq venus,1. Are you referring to a file or folder? Is it associated with any program? This might happen due to virus running on the computer. Try the following steps and check the result.Step 1: If you don't have any security software installed on the computer, you might consider installing Microsoft Security Essentials security software that's available for free for all Windows users and scan for virusa. See Microsoft Security Essentialsb. Click Download button and install the security software.c. Once you've installed it, scan your computer.Step 2: If the issue still persists, check if any non Microsoft program running on the computer is causing the issuea. See How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" stateb. If the issue does not persist, then from the article, follow Method 1 and Method 2 to find out if any program is causing the issue.c. Once you've found the culprit i.e. the program that's causing the issue, then uninstall it or reinstall it once again to fix the issue.Note: From the article do not forget to follow "Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state"Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

It's all relative, how many files are "lots of files"? Are we talking 200,000 files or more? You can disable short-file name creation to improve NTFS performance. How to Disable the 8.3 Name Creation on NTFS Partitionshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/121007John

2,000 files is really a puny amount of files, creating short-file name is a non issue for such a small amount of files. What kind of files do you have in the folder? The problem might be caused by folder customizations, is there a hidden Desktop.ini file in the folder? if you are generating thumbnails it can slow things down.John
