why does my system work so slow when opening e-mail and sound like a plane taking off?

The sound could be due to the machine being full of dust, if you've had it for a while I would take a vacuum to the vents and fans to clear the dust. If you feel confident and have a desktop computer instead of a laptop or netbook, remove the side of the computer and carefully remove all visible dust, making sure to hold the fan blades from spinning as they could damage the computer if they spin up too fast.
