Please remove the current driver again then install the newest driver available.  If that does not work try installing it in compatibility mode

To install in compatibility mode do the following:

Right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS

(works in vista, win 7, win 8, and win 10)

Hello mike128,

Do you mean that the external Wi-Fi adapter works in Windows 8 and doesnt work in Windows 8.1?

Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Open device manager and see if there are error icons
2. Check if the Wi-Fi adapter can work in other Windows 8.1 computers
3. Check if other device  can normally connect to the wireless router

If the other Windows 8.1 computers cant normally use the USB Wi-Fi adapter, please contact the manufacturer to confirm the compatibility.

Best regards,
Fangzhou CHEN

If you provide us with the make and model of your system and/or the wireless adapter we can provide more accurate assistance. Without those specifics, we can only provide the general advice to install updated drivers, try compatibility mode, research device compatibility with the operating system, and potentially to perform a complete uninstallation and reinstallation of the drivers to eliminate corruption.
