Windows Defender is not an antivirus in any case. It is an antispyware program. On each Windows computer you need to have a current version antivirus with updated virus definitions, a firewall (the Windows Firewall is fine), and optionally an antispyware program. I don't like to have antispyware programs that run in the background, like Windows Defender, on XP. I recommend using the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware instead and running it manually once a week. Since your laptop is infected (and probably your desktop computer is also), you need to get these machines cleaned up and properly protected. Go through these general malware removal steps systematically - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe Mode. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions http://tinyurl.com/yoeru3 - download link and more instructions If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop. MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Thank You So very much, I have no problem saying I don't know what i am doing but there really is no place around here to take it to so I will try as you have stated but how do I get it to run in safe mode? Also did window defender automatically run on the wire less or not? - Thank You Again for all of your help.

To get into Safe Mode, repeatedly tap the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the diagnostic menu. Use your arrow key to select Safe Mode and press the Enter key. I don't know what you mean by "window defender automatically run on the wire less or not?". Windows Defender is part of Vista so yes, it would be running if you have Vista on the laptop.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
