windows 7 backup problem
I have installed windows 7 on my macbook pro's bootcamp partition and each time I'm trying to use windows backup I get error "The backup was not successful. The error is: The requested system device cannot be found. (0x80073BC3)." The destination disk has plenty of space and is used to backup my other win7 machine. I get the same error even if I try to backup without system image, just the user files. Any ideas?

Hi, It seems that the system disk isn’t correctly recognized by Windows Backup. I would like to suggest you taking the following options: 1. Disconnect external hard disks only leave the system drive, run Windows Backup again to see if it works. 2. Check for disk errors using Chkdsk. If any errors are found, use “chkdsk /r” in WinRE to fix problems and mark bad sectors. 1) Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer. 2) When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar. 3) Click "Next" and click "Repair your computer". 4) Please highlight "Windows 7" and click "Next". 5) Select “Command Prompt”. 6) Type: chkdsk /r. 3. Use “sfc /scannow” to check for and repair Windows System file integrity issues. 4. Perform a Clean Boot to eliminate third party program causes. BTW, I found a similar issue for your reference: Backup Fails because of shadow copy Best Regards DalePlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. When I've had similar problems, I'll often unassign the drive letter for the disk in question, reboot, then re-assign it. You can do this by right-clicking Computer, selecting Manage, select Disk Management, right-clicking on the partition in question, then selecting Change Drive Letter. Hope this helps. May not be a bad idea to re-run the setup configuration on Windows Backup & Restore after doing this as well.

I tried it with no success. I suppose I had to re-assign the target disk's letter, right?

chkdsk and sfc return no errors. Something that I've noticed is that when I get the error the target USB disk seems disconnectet and reconnected. I tried also a second USB disk but got the same error. thanks, Akis
