windows 7 build 7000 keeps crashing!
i downloaded W7 beta build 7000 on my dell inspiron 1525 running vista x86 or x32 wtv, and it installed okay but when i set it up and the desktop loaded, about maybe 30 seconds- 1 minute into the desktop use, i get BlueScreened. somebody please help, because i have no idea whats wrong or how to fix it, im posting this while running W7 in safe mode, and i hear that the alternative to using safe mode is to re-install vista which would mean losing everything and for me that is not an option i want to take if at all possible

Jerry - A few thoughts on this - 1.) Since it's a BSOD in normal operating mode, and it's not BSOD'ing in Safe Mode, it could be easily deduced that there is likely an issue with a driver somewhere. As such, you'll have to do some digging in the Event Viewer to see what's been blowing up on you. If you can find the hardware and the driver that's causing the problem, you can check the web to see if there's a newer, more stable driver available for that item, download and install it.2.) Given the Release Candidate is now out, you might want to see about downloading a copy of build 7100. Unfortunately, it would mean doing a clean install as Microsoft really would rather you not try to upgrade from 7000 to 7100. Their logic and reasoning on why this is simple. The beta will expire in August 2009. The final productis not likely to see a retail shelf until well after August 1st. No one will be upgrading from build 7000 to the finished version.3.) Conventional wisdom and long hard experience indicates that a fresh, clean install is ALWAYS the best possible way to go about doing an upgrade. It's always best to back up your data, bookmarks, music files, documents, etc.., et al, ad nausum to an external drive and before installing another OS. It's generally best to NOT use the backup program as the backup file format may change. Therefore, if you're not having any luck figuring out what's causing the BSOD, you may want to consider getting an external hard drive, backing up your important stuff and downloading a copy of the 7100 build and doing a clean install.

Hi jerry1605: Are you still having this problem? Have you tried installing Windows 7 RC and seeing if the problem is fixed in that? -Nick

actually yes its fixed now. what happened was that my BIOS version was downgraded, so i reinstalled vista, went to dell.com and updated the BIOS. i installed 7 again and since then it has worked perfectly. and i must admit its a really great experience! by that i mean w7, not the whole process that i went through
