windows 7 print queues
example: Create printer with Name (A) connected to Local Port (A) using Driver (A). Create a second printer with Name (B) connected to Local Port (A) using Driver (A). The devices are combined into one icon in the "Devices and Printers". One must needs right click on the printer name (A) and then select "Print Properties" then hover over printer Name (B) to select the printing properties of printer (B)'s queue. How do I change this behavior to display a different printer icon for a different print queue? Thanks, Doug

Hi Doug, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. I have tried test on different manufacture and different models, that gives a mixed result. Some have separate icons some not even with the same manufacture. It seems this depends on the printer driver. As Microsoft don’t write drivers for third party devices, it is suggested to contact the manufacture for more accurate information. Your understanding is appreciated. Hi Magon, Ah let me narrow the scope somewhat. I'm not using 3rd party drivers, just the drivers bundled with windows 7 by Microsoft. I'm testing with these two specific drivers: HP Laserjet 4si and Lexmark T634 driver, bundled with Windows 7 EE x32/x64. I'll also clarify, my Local Port is of type "Standard TCP/IP" port type. It makes no difference if SNMP is enabled on the port either in my testing. I'm surprised you're getting mixed results, I've not been able to duplicate that here. What driver are you using that demonstrates seperate print queues? Thanks, Doug

Hey Doug, Here is my report: HP Laserjet 4si shows seperate icons while Lexmark T634 shows combined icons. I noticed that Lexmark T634 is sort of outdated and I can only find Windows XP driver for it. From this website: "Cannot find MS Windows 7 printer driver" It seems that printer driver like such is not fully compatible with Windows 7 on the icons display issue. We can wait for driver update in the future. For the printer you can name the model, it is suggested to go to their manufacture's website and download the driver there. For the HP Laserjet 4si, please try the driver here. Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Hi Magon, Sounds good to me. I've found printmanagement.msc to exhibit the expected behavior as opposed to the delta created by "Devices and Printers". I'll use printmanagement.msc until "Devices and Printers" exhibits the corrected behavior. I have one followup though. 1) How do I file a bug report with MS and get an official opinion on why this discrepancy exists and if it's possible to get this discrepancy removed? Thanks, Doug
